Capacity building in Smart and Innovative eNERGY management

REACT (Renewable Energy for self-sustAinable island CommuniTies) is a 4-year research project funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 programme. Its objective is to achieve island energy independence through renewable energy generation and storage, a demand response platform, and promoting user engagement in a local energy community. REACT is developing a technical and business model to demonstrate that these technologies can bring economic benefits, contribute to the decarbonisation of local energy systems, reduce GHG emissions, and improve environmental air quality.

REACT has chosen three different islands with similar size but with different climate zones, energy requirements and population densities to deploy and demonstrate its potential to reduce GHG emissions and energy costs by 60% and to achieve energy savings of at least 10%.

During her staff exchange at Institute Mihajlo Pupin,  Ms. Dayanne Peretti Correa, PhD Candidate at National University of Ireland, Galway, presented the recent activities conducted at Pilot 3 (Inis Mór, Aran Islands, Ireland).
