Capacity building in Smart and Innovative eNERGY management

Overview

The GOTOTWIN project, entitled ‘Advancing Renewable Energy in the Adriatic Ionian Region through the Use of Digital Twins’, aims to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and hydropower. By creating a collaborative ecosystem of government agencies, energy companies, research institutions and local communities, GOTOTWIN seeks to unlock the full potential of renewable energy in the Adriatic–Ionian region, paving the way for a cleaner and more resilient energy future.

The Open Call for Experiments invites stakeholders to test innovative solutions within digital twin living labs. Through this call, GOTOTWIN will select up to six participants from across the region and help them evaluate and validate novel approaches to renewable energy systems using digital twins.

Who Can Apply?

  • Small and Medium Enterprises and startups based in the ADRION region
  • Business Support Organisations
  • Renewable energy companies and utility providers
  • Technology providers and software developers
  • Research institutions and universities
  • Living labs and testbeds focused on renewable energy

What is the Open Call About?

The Open Call invites stakeholders to conduct experiments in living labs built around the digital twin concept for renewable energy. Participants are encouraged to explore new algorithms, technologies and solutions addressing challenges in renewable energy generation, distribution, storage and management.

Experiments should focus on applying digital twin techniques to improve efficiency, reliability and scalability of renewable energy systems and to foster collaboration across the Adriatic–Ionian region.

What Are We Looking For?

GOTOTWIN seeks experiments that validate and evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of digital twin solutions. Applications should demonstrate how the proposed experiment will measure performance, scalability and replicability of digital twin technologies in renewable energy settings.

In addition to validation, participants should explore new business models and market opportunities for transnational renewable energy systems. Proposed experiments must encourage knowledge exchange and collaboration among stakeholders while highlighting sustainability and innovation.

What We Offer

  • Access to renewable energy living labs with digital twin infrastructure
  • Access to live and historical renewable energy data to test and train algorithms
  • Technical mentoring and expertise from the GOTOTWIN consortium
  • Support in developing and validating digital twin solutions for renewable energy
  • A three-month experimentation period per selected participant (November 2026 – January 2027)
